This blog is for anyone who draws compulsively (on the train, in bed, in dept. stores, whenever the mood strikes). Whatever I happen to be drawing at the time I will share on this blog and I expect Hui Jin and others to give good crit, so be nice or be mean, but say wha chu tink. Above are some shoe sketches I did because sometimes people have a hard time seeing how my weird 3d color patterns can be applied to products.
hey kaspar, this is a nice set. your sketching quality is very consistent. it's something i need to work on.
ReplyDeletei like the dramatic angle you used for the first shoe. however, the perspective on that shoe seems a bit weird to me. it looks like it has a slight twist, as if the front and the heel of the shoe are on slightly different planes.
for the second shoe, the perspective is pretty dead on. although the toe area seems a bit thick. i guess it's because how the outsole kicks up in the front. it's a bit tough to illustrate.
and the last one, it seems to have a bit too many sharp points. (it could just be my personal taste, as i like to have some beyonce curves in my drawings)
in terms of color, i dont think i can give you a impartial critique as i'm going through a phase where i don't enjoy seeing more than 2 or 3 colors on an single piece of clothing. lol.
and lastly, i think patterns work best in the 3rd sketch. they are all very geometric and seem to be related to one another. overall, the 3rd shoe is the most cohesive of the bunch.
hope i wasn't too hard on your first post

Yo Momma has beyonce curves!
ReplyDeleteYou are always right on.
1st. Twisted
2nd. Thick toe box
3rd. I like the sharpness, but I know what you mean about Beyonce!
Overall I like doing too many colors, but I am willing to tone it down and maybe do tonal variations of 2 colors or something, cause you are not the only one who feels that way. You are also right that it is better when the patterns are more related, so maybe I will take some of the ideas here and pull them together more.
Lets see your steez....
