ink stuff

i was using what ever i could find- markers, coffee, wine, egg.
These other two drawings were from right before i started fashion
week, so like 6 weeks ago.
i was buying something like home made paper, that's why it looks so rough.
thanks for the invite and look forward to hearing your thoughts

winsor & newton
i finally decided to upgrade my current poor man's gouache set by Reeves. $7 for 12 colors. what a deal right? no, not really. i was never able to get some solid opaque colors on the page, no matter how many applications of the same colors. so a few months ago i visited Pearl Paint and asked the gouache master there why i was failing at making my whites white, and my purps purp. he suggested that i get some paints of quality; namely, the ones by winsor & newton. but how could i afford to drop $7 for just 1 tube of paint, with no income?
winsor & newton designers gouache cost me $46 for only...6 tubes of basic colors. painfully small tubes compared to what i'm used to. but i am really happy with the amount of pigment in the paint.
anyway, here's something to look at

Justification not Inspiration

I was talking to someone about design the other day and how design employers always wants to know "where do your ideas come from?" to truly explain to someone that the idea came from the wrinkle in a piece of paper or an abstract model and have them believe in your idea is difficult. What most people mean when they ask "where do your ideas come from?" is "why do your ideas matter?" or "what justifies your idea?" This is why you have to show them something from the real world that they can relate to, to give the design meaning for them.
Anyway, I drew these sketches of outerwear and then found images, a floor tile pattern, an ikea napkin and a quiksilver ad that give my silly sketches some validity.

Pre Valentine's Day
This one is for all y'all that forgot to get a gift for that special someone. Just print out this card and let me know what kind of response you get.
OK Hui here it is, updated with the miracle of photoshop, you are right I did think about the foreground/background thing, but I wanted the heart to be kind of subtle, cause I find hearts to be so kitschy to begin with.

2. some recent sketches from the moley
these probably mean nothing to people. and i don't have much say about them. they result from my somewhat random doodles as i'm trying to find a style or a theme that sings to me. actually, most of the time, i don't really think about what i'm putting down on the page.
sorry about the crappy snapshots. my scanner is pretty much dead.
